Team Overview: This position is with LaSalle Investment Management’s Value-Add Investments team (the “Team”), a specialist business which invests client capital into pure and structured real estate equity investments across Europe, covering a broad spectrum of asset classes both directly, and via strategic relationships with operating partners (across residential, retail, hospitality, office, and a variety of other niche sectors). Recent hires to build up the Team include the new Head of Debt and Value-Add, who was previously at Blackstone and Goldman Sachs, and the new Head of Value-Add who was previously at Meyer Bergman and founded Jackyl. The Team currently has c.£400m of equity to deploy in value-add strategies across Europe and the UK across the LaVA II and SSIIV funds and is looking to raise a flagship value-add fund in 2022, targeting €1bn of equity.

 

Role: The role will be primarily focused on supporting the Team with evaluating potential investment opportunities throughout Europe on behalf of the various client mandates, accounts and funds within the Team’s remit. The candidate will be responsible for analysing complex investment opportunities and supporting Team members on all aspects of the investment process, including deal screening, underwriting, due diligence and subsequent investment management. The candidate will support Team members with financial modelling, interacting with external advisors, performing detailed due diligence, as well as preparing materials for both investment committee discussions and external client presentations. The Team is looking for entrepreneurial candidates who aren’t afraid to bring good ideas to the table.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Involvement in new deal underwriting, financial modelling, structuring and completion mechanics, as well as supporting the Team with negotiation and execution of legal documentation.
  • Preparation of internal investment committee materials and external client presentations on new deals and topics related to investment management workstreams.
  • Liaison and coordination with internal LaSalle departments and external counterparties (e.g. operating partners, due diligence advisors etc) on both new deal execution and investment management workstreams.
  • Provision of support to the Team and other internal LaSalle departments on investment management workstreams pertaining to existing AUM under the Team’s remit (including financial modelling, buy/hold/sell analysis, financing processes and performance monitoring).

 

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong academic degree qualifications.
  • 1-3 years of experience; this person will be at a level of second-year analyst or first-year associate equivalent in investment banking terms.
  • Prior work experience in real estate investment banking, institutional commercial real estate lending, principal real estate investing and/or development, with relevant deal specific exposure in Europe.
  • Understanding of property fundamentals (including operational assets and business plans) across a wide set of asset classes, as well as a strong interest in real estate investment.
  • Must be proficient in Excel financial modelling (i.e. cash flow/DCF/LBO/integrated corporate models) and experienced in PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with more complex capital structures; ability to analyse financial statements would be beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical rigour is key to the role.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to prioritise and work on a variety of projects simultaneously.
  • A team player who is self-motivated with excellent communication skills, strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • European languages an advantage, although not a must.
